Bots, bots, and more bots

Hi there,

We just started using Memberstack on our new Webflow page, and so far, the only signups have been from bots.

How do I know? The names all share similar characteristics:

  1. The first and last name are both entered into the “first name” and “last name” field (so, user is “Willa Parker Willa Parker”)
  2. The names have nothing - and I mean nothing - to do with the emails they also used (the email associated with Willa Parker, for example, is Gloria.Okoro@…)
  3. The names are outlandish. Willard Hayes IV (who uses the IV in their username on a website?), Assunta Bayer, Miss Curt Schamberger… You get the idea.

We have had 0 “real” users sign up so far (the site is not yet promoting the signup option), and Re-Captcha IS ENABLED.

Help?

Rob

Hey Rob

Welcome, and thank you for posting in the forum!

Just trying to clarify a little. Are you using the Memberstack modal for signups or are you using a custom form?

We are using the Memberstack modal for signups. Would a custom form solve this problem?

Thank you!

Rob

Hey @robh  wanted to chime in and let you know that a custom form won’t totally solve the problem. That said, using something like Zapier/Integromat allows you to send an email BEFORE a member signs up with MemberStack and you could add a bit that requires them to confirm that email, first.

This would solve your problem

Here’s a screencast of mine walking through this exact setup:

Let me know if you have any questions!
